I was sat there thinking about how 2020 has been a year that changed everything for everyone in the world. There was a time when working from home was a luxury and now we all (almost) want to go back to the office.
Online shopping used to be the mastery of Amazon but the past 10 months have made literally everyone up their online game. Never have I ever seen so many sales pop up and so many of our high-street favourites disappearing, it’s all a big change and a challenge for our high streets.
Come to think of it from fashion’s point of view we broke quite a few rules this year. Things that seem so little but have been big game changers. So here are a few fashion rules that we broke in 2020 and why I love them.
1. Leave your sweatpants at home
I mean, if it wasn’t for 2020 would any of us be stepping out in our sweatpants? I don’t think so! It’s all been about making your sweats look stylish and comfy. Like pairing them with blazers or a nice coat. Or going all in with sweatpants and a sweatshirt and pairing it up with a nice coat. Well I say carry on with the comfort as now it is socially acceptable to walk around with your sweats just make them stylish.
2. Don’t mix Fuchsia or Pink with Red
Who ever made this rule didn’t know what they were talking about. Yes it’s bright and yes the colours clash but is that a problem ? NO. Talk about attention grabbing outfit and here it is.
So some of our celebs have been doing this for a while and I’m glad we broke this rule coz look at them?
3. No mixing the seasons
Well hello! We should have broken this one sooner! Why waste so many of your beautiful clothes by just keeping them for a specific season ? I mean, yes you can’t make use off everything spring / summer but sure you can mix up things to make them transition into autumn/ winter.
Don’t be shy take out those unusual pieces and combine them to make a whole new outfit.
4. Florals are for spring
Anyone who is a fan of Boho aesthetic has been breaking this rule forever. But Zimmerman has proven we can wear florals all year round ! check out these cute styles available on the high street.
Zara has some really nice options available that you can team up with cardigans and coats to make it apt for Autumn or Winter
5. Match your bag to your shoes
I still love to match my shoes and my bags but that’s not always possible and I love how the insta community has been breaking this little rule and I’m all for it. In fact if 2020 has taught us anything , people want to stand out and what better way to do it than with a contrast bag !
6. Leave your sneakers in the gym
Ahem! Didn’t we just prove them all wrong ? Thanks to Nike, Puma , LV and Balenciaga chunky sneakers are a thing to be worn outside the gym too. 10/10 on Comfort.
If you ask me these are some of the major rules we broke this year and I am sure we all are guilty of at least one or all in my case and i love it!
So how has this little recap been for you and whats your favourite fashion rule to break?
