Hello, my favorite people. How are you all? Welcome back to my blog. The weather hasn’t been amazing this past few weeks in the UK has it? One extreme to another too hot to too cold typical isn’t it?
Anyway, I recently went to the new Indian snack restaurant in town and thought I would post a little review of the place. It’s called Chaiiwala which basically translates to Tea seller. In India, you would have so many tea stalls by the roadside or as restaurants where they would sell tea and snacks. So the idea of having something similar here in the UK was very exciting for my Indian taste buds.
With cafes all over the UK Chaiiwala is a franchise that has gained a lot of popularity over the years. It was pretty much empty when we went so we had the best seats. It did get a lot of people coming in for takeaways and by the time we started to leave all the tables were full. You have to go up to the counter to place your order and then you can wait at your table to be served. The decor is true to the Indian cafe style. Great lighting and wall mirrors with imagery of Indian monuments and the food.
Food
I quite like the presentation of the food wrapping being like a newspaper about Indian independence among other things.
Wraps and Snacks
They have quite a few wraps to choose from, the butter chicken roll and the malai boti naan roll were our favorites. They have a lot of other snack options like Pav bhaji, Bombay sandwich, Chili paneer roll, and all-day breakfast with an omelet among other things.
Chips
If you ever want unusual options for chips this is your place! They serve butter chicken with chips (not sure about this) Mogo chips which are basically fried cassava chips marinated in spicy gazebo sauce. I however tried the spicy masala chips which I wasn’t that keen on in the end because of the stickiness of the sauce on them. But my partner enjoyed them.
Dessert
There is a fair bit of choice for kids as well if they don’t eat spicy meat etc. Choices including sweet roti and Nutella wrap which my little one relished.
There is a good choice of dessert as well which includes Gulab Jamun, Gajar halva cheesecake which is basically a sweet carrot base with cheesecake on top (sinfully delicious). This below is the Chocolate Chai Moose and it was quite delicious with a subtle hint of tea coming through.
Chai
If you are ever at Chaiiwala you must try their chai if not anything else. They have several types of chai but my favorites are –
1) Karak chai which literally translates to strong tea but also has cardamom in it.
2) Pink chai which has saffron in it.
3) Mint Chai
4) Cinnamon Chai
There are so many options available there you will be spoilt for choice. I would have loved to have my tea in traditional glass cups rather than the use and throw coffee cups when I wasn’t actually taking it away.
Outfit and other things
It was a very last-minute decision to go so I kept it casual with my trusted HM straight Jeans and basic HM crepe top with a white blazer and my Puma walking shoes.
Makeup was minimalistic with just a lippy and mascara. Some days are just so nice and simple.
So in other random news over the weekend I also spotted some really delicious Lychee! I really love this exotic fruit it’s just so nice and fresh.
Lastly, I picked up a few new books, and I am quite excited to read Harriet Tyce’s new book – The lies you told. I have read Blood Orange and I really enjoyed it. It was short but still very well pulled together. So I have high expectations in turns of plot twists when it comes to this new book. when I am finished reading it I will let you know how it was.
So that’s it from me today everyone 🙂 I will see you next week with more exciting things. Have a great week ahead.
Au Revoir, Pooja Xx
