Seaplane transfers from Male
When you arrive into Male airport, you will need to find the staff from Sun Siyam Resorts who will help you through the Trans-Maldivian sea plane service. You’ll get your bags weighed and will be given your seaplane boarding cards. The sea plane baggage weight limit is 25 Kgs per person.
This also includes your hand luggage. It is very likely that you will be over the limit so pay $5 for each kilo you are over. However just beware that if your luggage is way over weight chances are they might leave it behind in busy seasons. The bag will arrive to your resort in the next possible trip.
They have to follow a strict weight limit due to the nature of the plane. But be assured they will bring your luggage.
TIP: Keep a change of clothes in your carry on luggage so you have something handy incase your luggage is left behind.

What are the room categories in Sun Siyam Iru Fushi?
One thing I appreciated about Iru Fushi is that they have a wide range of villas, perfect for couples, families, or larger groups. All the villa’s are huge! compared to a lot of the other islands we have explored in the Maldives so far.

- Beach Villas – Cozy and tucked away in the greenery.
- Deluxe Beach Villas with Pool – Slightly bigger, with added privacy and a plunge pool.
- Family Deluxe Villas – Spacious setups with extra beds.
- Water Villas – The classic Maldives experience, perched above the ocean.
- Horizon Water Villas with pool– More private, with uninterrupted ocean views.
- Infinity Water Villas with pool – With larger pools and upgraded interiors.
- Aqua Retreat – Aqua Retreat features two bedrooms with king size beds, a large separate lounge and kitchen. It has it’s own large infinity pool and sun deck with outdoor dining. The lagoon here is perfect for horizon views!
- Celebrity Retreat – This one’s on another level think three bedrooms, a private spa, butler service, and a beachfront garden. This is pretty much at the centre of the island and yet feels pretty private.
- Hidden Retreat – This 205 sqm villa features two king size bedrooms, a lounge and kitchen, plus an expansive outdoor terrace with a large swimming pool surrounded by private gardens.
Our Villa: Horizon Water Villa with Pool
We stayed in a Horizon Water Villa with Pool, and it was stunning. The villa opens up to a private deck with uninterrupted ocean views, a plunge pool, sun loungers, and direct access to the lagoon. Inside, the space is huge high ceilings, a massive bed, indoor shower, a deep soaking tub, and a glass floor panel to peek at fish beneath your feet. We loved the pool and the amazing lagoon that surrounds the villa!
Beaches & Pools at Sun Siyam Iru Fushi
The beaches here are exactly what you’d hope for in the Maldives soft white sand, crystal clear water, and no crowds. Some areas are perfect for swimming, others for lounging under palm trees. We loved how quiet it felt.
There are two main pools: a family-friendly one called Fluid bar pool near the center of the island, and Reflections, the adults-only infinity pool with a full bar. Both are beautiful, but I found ourselves returning to Reflections for its peaceful vibe.

Dining & Meal Plans
Food is a big part of any holiday, and we were seriously impressed. There are 14 restaurants and bars at Iru Fushi, from Maldivian seafood grills to fine French dining and teppanyaki.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the meal plans you can choose from:
Plan | Inclusions |
---|---|
All Inclusive | Buffet + a la carte meals, snacks, cocktails, minibar, 50% in-villa dining, spa/dive discounts. Free activities such as non motorised sports and 1 free excursion of your choice (From a list provided by the resort). Honestly, this is what I felt is worth every penny. |
Soft All Inclusive | Similar food perks as all inclusive package, but with no alcohol only soft drinks are included. |
Full Board | All meals (buffet or a la carte), but drinks are extra. Good if you’re not a big drinker. |
Half Board | Breakfast and dinner included. Perfect if you plan to go light during the day. |
Bed & Breakfast | Breakfast only included. Unless you are on a diet that allows only breakfast this plan is not recommended as you will need to pay for all other meals. |
The Spa: An Oasis in the Middle of the Island
I’ve been to a few resort spas before, but The Spa by Thalgo was something else. It’s huge 20 treatment pavilions hidden within tropical gardens. From the herbal tea on arrival to the outdoor bath in the private garden pavilion its a magical place to be.
They offer everything: Balinese massage, reflexology, facials, body wraps. There’s also a hydrotherapy area with plunge pools, a steam room, and sauna. On an all inclusive package you get $50 Spa credit and 20% spa discount on some massages and honestly wish we’d had more time here.

For Families
If you’re travelling with kids, Sun Siyam Iru Fushi makes it super easy. The Koamas Kids Club has indoor and outdoor play zones, daily activities, and childcare options. We saw lots of happy kids, and the activites were well managed.
Activities, Excursions & Extras
Even if you’re not diving, there’s plenty to do:
- Snorkeling safaris
- Jet skiing and parasailing
- Sunset dolphin cruises
- Island hopping tours
- Daily entertainment
For quieter days, there’s a gym, tennis court, and yoga sessions on offer. Non-motorised water sports like kayaking and paddle boarding are free.
Final Thoughts: Is Sun Siyam Iru Fushi Worth It?
Absolutely! Sun Siyam Iru Fushi gives you that Maldivian postcard experience with so much flexibility. Whether you’re honeymooning, travelling with your family, or just need a break, this island has something for you. The All Inclusive plan is a great way to enjoy everything stress-free, but even the Full or Half Board plans can work if you’re on a more relaxed budget.
Would we go back? 1000% yes. Especially for those sunset views from the water villa.
