Though these domes are extremely popular in travel media/postcards, they’re actually tucked down narrow alleys off the main pedestrian street, so many people walk by without realising how close they are.

🚡 Taking the cable car in Santorini is one of those little experiences you can’t miss. It connects the Old Port at the bottom of the cliff to Fira town at the top and saves you from climbing all 588 steps. The ride itself is short, just 3–5 minutes, but the views of the caldera, the whitewashed houses, and the Aegean Sea are absolutely stunning.

The cable car was built by the Loula & Evangelos Nomikos Foundation and today it carries thousands of visitors every summer. It runs frequently, usually every 20 minutes, and can transport around 1,200 people an hour.

🎟️ Tickets are bought at the terminal on the spot. The current cost is about €10 per adult one way, €5 for children, and €5 per piece of luggage.

🕒 Opening hours are usually from early morning, around 6:30 AM, until late in the evening, depending on the season and cruise ship schedules.

⚠️ A few tips: expect queues when cruise ships are docked, go early or later in the day to avoid the rush, and note that it may close in very windy weather. No official online ticket booking is available, so plan to buy on-site.

If you want a quick, scenic, and unforgettable way to get from the port to the town, the Fira cable car is definitely worth the ride 💙
