If you’ve been following my Maldives series, welcome back! After an incredible stay at Cinnamon Dhonveli, it was time to pack our bags and head to our next island paradise at Angsana Velavaru Maldives.
I’d seen so many photos of this resort online, especially its famous InOcean Villas that sit completely separate from the main island, and trust me my jaw dropped to the floor when I realised we are going to my dream Maldives resort! PS: this was a surprise trip that my husband booked for us to celebrate my special birthday! Yes your girl just turned 40!
So in this blog, I’m sharing my honest experience of staying at Angsana Velavaru Maldives, from the seaplane transfer and first impressions to the room, restaurants, beaches, snorkelling, spa, activities and, of course, the incredible service. I’ll also share plenty of practical tips that I wish I’d known before arriving, so hopefully they’ll help you plan your own trip too.

Why We Chose Angsana Velavaru Maldives
As part of our Maldives island-hopping adventure, we moved to Angsana Velavaru after an amazing stay at Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives. If you haven’t already read that review, I’d highly recommend checking it out as well, as the two resorts offer completely different experiences.
One of the things I really appreciated was how seamless the transfer between resorts was. After breakfast at Cinnamon Dhonveli, we checked out. We then travelled back to Velana International Airport, where all seaplane transfers begin and end. The resort teams coordinated everything for us, making the journey very straightforward.
As you all know we have travelled to many other Maldives resorts in the past few years and they all have a different feel to offer. So this year we wanted to explore an smaller resort with a more boutique vibe. What makes Angsana Velavaru stand out is its InOcean Villas. Unlike most overwater villas in the Maldives, these villas are completely detached from the main island, giving you uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean and a real sense of privacy.
Getting to Angsana Velavaru
After arriving at Velana International Airport in Malé, an Angsana representative met us and escorted us to the seaplane lounge while our luggage was transferred for us.
The seaplane journey takes approximately 40 minutes and is an experience in itself. Flying over the turquoise lagoons and tiny coral islands is the perfect way to begin your Maldives holiday.
Top Tip: Seaplane baggage allowances are typically 20kg checked luggage and 5kg hand luggage per person, so it’s worth checking your luggage weight before travelling. Any excess over the 25Kg allowance per person is charged at $5 per kg that you pay before you board the seaplane.
Our InOcean Villa
Our home for the next few days was one of Angsana Velavaru’s spectacular InOcean Villas.
These villas sit on their own platform in the middle of the lagoon, completely separate from the main island.
A complimentary boat service operates throughout the day, taking guests between the villas and the island in around five minutes.
Inside, the villa felt incredibly spacious, featuring:
- A large bedroom with panoramic ocean views
- A generous bathroom with indoor and outdoor spaces
- A private infinity pool
- Direct access to the lagoon
- A large sun deck perfect for relaxing
Waking up to endless shades of blue every morning is something I’ll never forget.
Restaurants at Angsana Velavaru
Food is always an important part of any holiday, and Angsana Velavaru offers a good variety of dining options.
If you’re staying in an InOcean Villa, you’ll also have access to Azzurro Restaurant & Bar, located above the lagoon. This became one of our favourite places to dine thanks to its stunning views and Mediterranean-inspired menu. We were so impressed by all the staff at this restaurant they were friendly and gave us fantastic service. By the end of our stay here we were so invested in their stories and their lives and their families it was heart warming.
All our meals were in this restaurant however we could also visit most restaurants on the main island as they were included in the all inclusive package.
Kaani Restaurant is the resort’s main restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch and themed buffet dinners overlooking the beach. There was plenty of variety throughout our stay, with international dishes alongside local flavours.
Funa Restaurant serves Pan-Asian cuisine in a relaxed setting, we didnt try that one as it was chargable and we loved the food at Azzuro so much that we kept forgetting to make a reservation at Funa to visit for dinner!
During the day, Kuredhi Pool Bar is perfect for light lunches, snacks and refreshing cocktails while relaxing by the pool. We really loved the cocktails here and the staff were absolutely amazing.
Voyage to Velavaru All-Inclusive Package
We were on the Voyage to Velavaru all-inclusive package, and it definitely enhanced our experience. Rather than simply including meals and drinks, the package adds a number of thoughtful extras that make your stay feel even more special. Depending on the offer available when you book, benefits can include premium dining, open-bar beverages, complimentary guided house reef snorkelling, snorkelling equipment, non-motorised water sports and access to the seaplane lounge at Malé before your flight to the resort.
One of our favourite perks was the USD 60 resort credit per villa, per night, which accumulates throughout your stay. We chose to put some of our credit towards a treatment at the award-winning Angsana Spa, where guests can redeem up to USD 100 per person towards spa bookings. It was the perfect excuse to slow down and enjoy a little extra pampering.
If you’re planning to book Angsana Velavaru, I’d definitely recommend comparing the available offers on the resort’s website before confirming your reservation. The inclusions can vary throughout the year, and choosing the right package could add some fantastic extras to your stay.

Beaches, Pools & Relaxation
The island itself is beautifully maintained, with soft white sand, crystal-clear water and plenty of places to relax.
Whether you prefer lounging by the infinity pool, walking around the island or enjoying a cocktail at the beach bar, there’s always somewhere peaceful to enjoy the surroundings.
Activities
One of the biggest highlights of Angsana Velavaru is the incredible marine life.
The house reef offers fantastic snorkelling with colourful tropical fish and coral just offshore. However, because parts of the reef become quite deep, less confident swimmers may prefer another option.
Top Tip: If you’re new to snorkelling, head to the decking area in front of the reception and dive centre. The water here is calmer and shallower, yet we still spotted an amazing variety of tropical fish. It’s the perfect place to build your confidence before venturing further out.
You can also enjoy several complimentary activities, including:
- House reef snorkelling
- Glass-bottom canoeing
- Canoes
- Paddleboarding
- Daily bird feeding
If you’re looking for more adventure, there are also plenty of paid water sports available, including jet skiing, windsurfing and catamaran sailing.
One excursion I highly recommend is the Sunset Dolphin Cruise. It costs USD 128 per person, and we were lucky enough to see dozens of dolphins swimming alongside the boat as the sun began to set. It was easily one of the highlights of our trip.

After spending a week here, I can honestly say Angsana Velavaru offers a unique Maldives experience.
The detached InOcean Villas provide a level of privacy that few resorts can match, the dining options offer excellent variety, and the complimentary activities mean there’s always something to do
It’s great for a honeymoon, celebrating a special occasion or simply looking to experience one of the Maldives’ most distinctive resorts, Angsana Velavaru is definitely worth considering.

You can reach Angsana Velavaru by seaplane. The flight takes about 40 mins.
Angsana Velavaru doesn’t have its own dedicated airport lounge. Instead, guests travelling by seaplane are escorted to the Maldives Business Lounge at Velana International Airport while they wait for their flight.
We found the experience to be very smooth. As soon as we arrived at the airport, a member of the Angsana team met us, took care of our luggage and escorted us to the lounge. Throughout the wait, the staff kept us updated on our seaplane departure and made sure everything was taken care of, so it felt like a very personalised experience.
The lounge offers comfortable seating, complimentary refreshments, Wi-Fi and air conditioning, making it a relaxing place to unwind before your seaplane transfer to the resort.
They often have seaplane discounts or free offers so definitely check that before you book. But here are the current rates :
Shared Seaplane Transfer Charges
Valid till 31st Dec 2026:
• Children (2–11.99 years): USD 365 nett per person
• Adults (12 years and above): USD 580 nett per person
• Infants (below 2 years): Complimentary
Transfers rates from 01 January – 31 Dec 2027 onwards:
• Children (2–11.99 years): USD 375nett per person

• Infants (below 2 years): Complimentary
100% Yes! The resort has a dedicated Rangers Club with activities for children, as well as family-friendly accommodation and complimentary activities.
No. The InOcean Villas are completely separate from the main island and are connected by complimentary boat transfers running throughout the day.
Yes. The house reef is excellent for snorkelling and offers plenty of colourful marine life. A guided snorkeling tour is free for every guest. They do it every day, take you by boat to the house reef and an experienced dive instructor is with the group to ensure safe reef snorkelling. Beginners can also snorkel safely from the reception jetty area in calmer water.
The package includes meals, drinks, USD 60 resort credit per villa per night, upto 2 kids eat free, 2pcs laundry per day and the option to redeem up to USD 100 per person towards spa treatments (out of the USD 60 accumulation) , subject to the package terms.
The best time to go to the Maldives is November to April. However we just went to Angsana Velavaru and Cinnamon Dhonveli towards the end of May and it only rained for and hour on 2 days out of the 7 days. So many travellers are now also preferring May – July as well!
We actually booked our stay straight through the resort website as at the time they were offering the best rates. However I would recommend checking websites such as Expedia , Booking.com or luxury escapes to compare whats the best offer.
Due to the middle east conflict we couldnt travel via Doha or Dubai like we previously did and all the direct flights we either fully booked or had been cancelled. So we travelled via Mumbai, India. You can also check for London – Delhi or London Bangalore flights and then get a connecting flight from either Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore to Male. It takes about 2-3 hrs to reach Male’ from any of these locations.
This was one of the questions I had before booking, as many travel websites include a small asterisk saying that additional guest surcharges may apply, with wording such as:
“Surcharges may apply for additional guests, payable directly to the resort. Inclusions are not valid for additional guests (unless specified).” Some sites also mention an additional charge of USD 120 per child, per night, while infants stay free of charge.
To avoid any surprises, we emailed the reservations team at Angsana Velavaru before booking to clarify the policy. We were travelling with one child, and they confirmed that as long as your child is included on the booking from the outset, there was no additional charge for our child and the Voyage to Velavaru all-inclusive package applied to them as well.
Of course, booking policies and offers can change over time, so I’d always recommend confirming this directly with the resort before you book. If you’re travelling with more than one child, it’s especially worth double-checking with the reservations team to make sure you understand any applicable charges or package inclusions for your family.
